plumbuita isle - bridge proposal
Year
2008
Location
Bucharest, Romania
Description
The brief was to mark out the
value of a notable site in Bucharest. What would a notable site mean?
The island I decided to analyze separates two distinctive, contrasting areas: on the east side, a park which hosts one of the oldest and historical monasteries in Bucharest; while in the west side, a poor neighbourhood, alienated from the city, by infrastructural and cultural issues.
The double bridge connects the Neighbourhood to the park. This way, the island becomes a joint between the neighbourhood and the rest of the city. The
self-supporting spiral form is a symbol of evolution, of perpetual change that recalls the tumultuous past of the monastery and seeks the development of the residential neighbourhood.
